TREKKING, PILGRIMAGE, HISTORY AND TRADITIONS ON THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE ARCHANGEL MICHELE IN THE HISTORICAL CHIANTI.
The Chianti mountains and Mount San Michele are on the imaginary line that unites the most important European sanctuaries dedicated to the Archangel and are crossed by centuries-old roads that reach churches, hospitals, and dedicated hermitages.
In the Chianti area the name of the Archangel returns constantly designating churches, hermitages, streams and the same Monte San Michele, peak of the territory, destination until the beginning of the twentieth century of religious processions and center of cult phenomena. The geographical context is made coherent by the existence of an ancient route, an important itinerary for pilgrims and a reference point for transhumance.
